Walk for breast Cancer

Why would anyone want to walk 60 miles in three days? I can think of three different numbers in answer to this - 212,920 ... 40,970 ... and slightly over 2 million.

Why these numbers? Because I obtained them from the American Cancer Society website in a FAQ about breast cancer1:

"About 212,920 women in the United States will be found to have invasive breast cancer in 2006. About 40,970 women will die from the disease this year. Right now there are slightly over 2 million women living in the United States who have been treated for breast cancer."

Women have a 1 in 8 chance of having invasive breast cancer during their lifetime. The chance of dying? About 1 in 33. The American Cancer Society thinks that is too high, and I have to agree with them.

This October in Philadelphia there will be a 3 day 60 mile walk for breast cancer. You can help by helping to sponsor 3DayMom, a group of ladies that have each committed to raising $2,200.00 for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation. They're getting close, but so is the deadline for the walk. I urge you to consider helping them meet their goals in this very worthy cause, for even just $5 you can help make a differnce in not just one life, but in the lives of every man2 and woman fighting breast cancer.

2 And yes, I said man. In a 2005-2006 document on breast cancer, the American Cancer Society estimated that about 1,690 cases of breast cancer would occur amoung men, with a possible 460 men dying from breast cancer.
