You might think that my recent forced layover in the Las Vegas airport courtesy of US Airways was a factor here, but actually, I've always liked poker. Me and my family have often played penny poker and even used match sticks in the past just as something to use for betting in a friendly game.
If you've ever watched Alias Smith & Jones then you probably saw an episode where Hayes is playing poker with a group of men and lays down his winning hand only to be informed that the hand is no good in that game because the Rules According to Hoyle state that the hand has to be stated as a proper hand in the game before the hands are dealt. I love that scene, and more the way they got revenge but I won't spoiler that part. It's a good example of the fact that people need to know when they sit down just what the rules of poker are. And now with the popularity of Texas Hold-em in nearly every corner bar and online poker being so popular it is getting to a point where you need to be sure when you walk into a game that you know the rules.
A search of the Internet will easily produce sites that list poker rules for games such as five card stud, seven card stud, Texas hold'em, and more. Bet365 is an easy to navigate site that has information on the rules for the most common games including an introduction to the game, how to play each game, game strategy, and a glossary of the terms used in each game.
