After spending the evening staying up late, I was woke around 6 a.m. by mom who asked me to turn the oven on for half an hour. It was -30 F on the porch and 60 degrees F in the hallway. A good 12 degrees colder in the house than we usually keep it.
We had run out of heater fuel during the night and the cold temps had quickly lowered the inside tempature. So I sat up with the oven on and the oven door open and kept the house to about 65 or 66. Finally got some fuel at around dawn and went out to pour that in, house is warmer now, but it's been a long slow process getting it to warm up. We're going through 5 gallons of heating fuel a day. IF we don't wash dishes or clothes. We was dishes and we need close to two can's a night. :-/
At about $20 a can that makes it around $$600 a month in heating fuel if we don't wash clothes or dishes. $900 to $1,200 when you add in hot water used for clothes, dishes, bathing, etc. And with the tempatures like they were last night that is going to go up, since the can last night only lasted about half the night without using the hot water for other things. :-/
I'm so not looking forward to -60 F in a couple more months.
