Have you ever watched a guy walk up to a door in a movie and press his finger to the pad so the door would unlock? Chances are that when you saw that you immediately went "Cool. I want one!" or maybe, "Neat, wish my door did that."
Well, your door can, and for less than you might expect (was less than I had expected at least, $500 to $600 - even a fingerprint lock for $200 that even a teen could afford for keeping their nosey little sibling out of their bedroom).
Brick House Security carries a range of styles of fingerprint access keyless entry locks.
I'm not sure just how much faith I would have in a biometric door lock. I'd be worried they could be overridden by being shorted out or something happen that they malfunction and lock you out permanently. Mainly suppose my concern is that I can tear apart a lock and fix it if it malfunctions, not exactly sure how I would go about popping a fingerprint lock apart to repair it.
I could not find a lot about the locks on the Brick House Security web site, so I did a little looking around online and most of what I saw about the things was good. The two reviewers from 2005 at epinions that had reviewed a fingerprint lock both gave it high scores and few complaints. The things seem to be reliable and easy to use and as one person noted about them - it's a much safer alternative to having to get a new lock every time you loan a key out to contractors or repairmen. You just give them temporary access and remove that access after they are finished with your home.
So, what do you all think? Would you use a Fingerprint lock on your house or apartment? Have you used them before and have experience to share with others? Would you recommend them?
