I was watching TBN last night, the Trinity Broadcasting Network, and I have to say that I just don't get it. The guy was going on and on about how he had to have a thousand people send him $1,000 so he could have a million dollars, however, if you listen to what the guy was saying rather than what he was wanting you to hear - he is standing up there specifically saying that he wants the money just because he likes living debt free and since he can find people that will just hand him money just for him saying "God is great!" then he is happy to take it and it has so far bought him two mansions (one I think he said was in Europe, didn't catch where the other one was) in addition to his house in the States. He's also got nice cars and on and on. The man says it right there in his sales pitch that he uses the money to live comfortably and people fall for it.
I have to say that I am scared. You would think that people would understand that no matter what the god is, you can not BUY your way into their good graces.
God does not want you to hand your money off to some guy on TV. God wants you to do what is good for your fellow people. If you want to drop a thousand dollars on someone, drop it on the American Red Cross, or Habitat for Humanity, or the American Cancer Society, or how about helping out some place like the Peace Corps?
I'm sick and tired of these preachers that stand up there on television and seduce people, usually older people on fixed incomes, out of what little the person has because the preacher wants to pay off another mansion or buy a new Cadillac SUV, or wants another diamond ring.
DO NOT send your money to people like the ones that run that Trinity Broadcasting Network, put it to use through a charity that will do good. Maybe the Michael J. Fox foundation to cure Parkinson's, or how about Amnesty International? Give your money to someone that will make a difference in people's lives, but someone that gives it to the world, not to someone that wants to line their own damn pockets like the guy I watched last night was saying.
It's how mom and I determined the scam works, he SAYS he is taking the money to buy fancy stuff and get rich, he just buries it in enough gibberish to get people that are "Caught by the spirit of the Lord" to fall for the song and dance he's giving them and send him money.
PLEASE reconsider what your money would be used for, and consider who might use it for better purposes. There are a lot of charities out there that can use even $5, can you imagine what a thousand people sending $1,000 to the American Cancer Society could do to help fund cancer research? With that kind of support maybe we would no longer need to rely just on the promises of stem cell research.
I'll shut up now, thank you for listening and heartfelt thanks for any who have listened enough to consider helping a genuine charity rather than sending their money to a man that, if he was truly concerned about others, would sell his fancy things and use that money to help people as he lived in a comfortable sized home rather than three multimillion dollar mansions across the world.
I went to the TBN site to find transcripts, but they don't have them. They have archives, but they don't yet have the show I watched last night archived.
