A while back I started trying to read Mystic Warrior, by Tracy & Laura Hickman. I'm still trying. The book started out slow, leaving me thinking that they could have left out half the introduction stuff and not lost anything. I skipped over large sections, half to a full page in places, and don't think I missed very much about what is going on.
Right now I'm just starting into chapter seven, and in chapter six the novel finally started getting to the point where I didn't want to skip sections.
This is the first book in the Bronze Canticles from 2005, so it's not very old. Still new enough to be good research on what's being read by the fantasy readers, which means that it is something that I should be reading as a fantasy writer. I'll let you know what I think of it when I'm finished reading.
