As a writer I have always envied court reporters. Have you seen how fast they can take dictation? I was looking at an article on the website for Todd Olivas & Associates and it says that those that are trained for court reporting are trained to take down dictation at 200 words per minute. Holy Hannah! And I had thought that the woman I had met when I was training as a terminal systems operator years ago was fast at 162 wpm.
What had drawn me over to Todd Olivas & Associates was the software that the California court reporting service has launched. Their free software allows legal secretaries to calculate dates and filing deadlines for law firms.
A friend of mine used to work for a law firm, and that was one of the biggest problems that they had was the lawyers not getting their dates right on when things needed to be filed or done or they needed to be back in court. This software allows the lawyer or legal secretary to schedule events a set number of days from a given start date, with the program taking into account holidays and weekends to give an accurate date for working days.
