Living in Alaska there are two things that you get used to. Sunshine at midnight in the summer and barely any sunlight in the winter. The lack of lighting in the winter months makes for a lessened enjoyment of the yard that I have wanted for many years to be able to change. This fall I want to look into decorative landscape lighting options for the yard that will allow the natural beauty of the Alaskan winter to be enjoyed with a carefully accented lighting scheme that will provide illumination for the yard.
My first thought is tiny white lights in the trees that line the back of the garden, maybe a series of net lights that can be used outdoors through the winter months to create just a subtle indication of twinkling sparkling light set back in the trees?
I want to get some landscape lighting to illuminate the walks and drive as well, something that can provide safety as well as beauty for anyone trying to visit after the sun has set in the evenings. Maybe something along the side of the garage where the icicles build up so beautifully, a soft pale blue or rose tone light to illuminate the cascade of ice?
I think it would be a wonderful way to make winter more enjoyable and add a little warmth to the cold nights as well as providing security lighting and extending the time that we can enjoy the yard during long dark winters.
