Where has Jeeves gone?

As a writer I am always looking for better tools to help me with the things that I need to find and do. In the mid 1990's that better tool was a courteous butler there to serve my every need. Jeeves was ready to answer my questions and guide me to the right information no matter what I asked. And best of all for me, he allowed me to simply ask my question. There was no time wasted deciding how a search engine might interpret my needs, I could simply ask my question and get relevant answers.

Alas, my loyalties were not as firmly based as my loyal butler Jeeves and I eventually became enticed by the Google engine and searching there was made easier by browser searches and all of the goodies that my old search engine just did not have. I moved to another search engine and left Jeeves behind.

I thought of Jeeves often, however, and would occasionally return to see how he fared. But my path had led me far from Jeeves and hard was the path to return.

And then it happened... Jeeves was no more. I blamed myself, I should have been there, should have done something. I have looked, but I see not where my loyal butler has gone. I discovered a page that indicated he went on a trip, retired to some island, or perhaps went to space. I know not where he is.

I found a song that marked his passing. And I searched in vain at his former home of Ask.com...

No Jeeves.

I had failed and he was gone.

And yet, I find that in looking to see where my loyal butler has gone to I am finding things about his site that makes me feel as if he is still there. I can sense his presence when I ask for guidance and get the information I need. I am given dictionary and encyclopedia offerings, there is news and image searches at the ready. As politely as the butler I loved quiet suggestions for narrowing or broadening my search line up along the side of my search suggestions. Jeeves is not so gone, his impression on the courtesy and helpfulness of the site remains. His spirit lingers there where for so long it served.

I know not where Jeeves has gone, but I know I have found my way home. As a writer Jeeves served my needs well, and as a writer Ask.com serves my needs now.

Thank you Jeeves. Wherever you are.

Great post! I liked Jeeves, too. Maybe he was hired by Google to tidy up their search results? LOL
