Would you pay $7 a gallon for milk?

Okay, here is a test for y'all. You are standing in the grocery store and you are staring at the milk on the shelves in front of you and to one side you have a standard white plastic carton filled with milk and the price over it says "$3.89 a gallon". Beside that is a gallon of milk in a yellow plastic carton (yes, a yellow carton) and above it a sign that says "$5.99 a gallon". (No, I'm not exaggerating this.)

Okay kiddies - which one do you buy?

And they wonder why Mat Maid Dairy is folding with over a million dollars in debt this year? June was the only month they showed a profit. The state run dairy, which has long been a part of Alaska, is just not faring well and somehow they think by hiking milk to as much as $7 a gallon (or so I've heard on the news) that they will survive?

Sorry Mat Maid, loyalty to a piece of state history is one thing, but paying twice as much a gallon for milk is not happening when we're already paying $3 a gallon for gas to go get that $7 gallon of milk!
