I want a home theater system

We are looking to maybe get a large screen television for my dad (one step closer to a home theater, yes!) but not sure yet on if we will be able to get it or not. We are waiting to hear if the guy that has it has sold it yet or not. Hopefully he has not yet sold it, it's the TV we want to be able to get for my dad and so we're crossing our fingers that we can pick this one up.

I want to build my dad a nice home theater system with surround sound and all that. I had pondered in the basement, but that would be so hard for him to get to, so now I am wondering about building on to the house with another bedroom sized room and making that an enclosed home theater room. Could design it out really nice and pick up stuff to make it comfortable for him to relax and watch the news and movies in there. Get some monster cable audio cable to run speakers throughout the room and make a complete surround sound system with speakers close to his chair so that he does not have to turn the television up so loud to watch a movie.

That's one of the problems with the current system. Movies seem to have a problem with their sound fluctuating between too loud and too low, so when the actors are talking it has to be turned up loud, then the action sequence stars up and the music and other sound effects bust your ear drums. I guess it is movies made for surround sound can't be played right on a single twin speaker television? I don't know. I just know I get tired of suddenly having my hearing assaulted by loud sounds when I have been trying to hear what two whispering actors were saying at the most crucial part of the movie.
