Facts about the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland
According to the CIA World Fact Book, England has existed as a unified entity since the 10th century. Their constitution is unwritten and comprised of statutes, common law and practice. An interesting fact that I had never before realized is that the coastline of the UK is so indented into the landscape that no location in the United Kingdom is more than 125 km from tidal waters. Ben Nevis, in the British Isles, is the highest point in the UK at 1,343 m, with the Fens in the eastern part of England being the lowest at -4 m. Comparative size of the UK is slightly smaller than Oregon - which is very impressive when you take into consideration all of the history that has come out of the country.
