Have you decided to take the family road tripping to get to your holiday getaway destination? Rather you are traveling for a few hours or a week or more there are a few things that can make the drive to your destination an enjoyable part of your holiday travel.
First and foremost, plan extra time. Don't cut the travel time so close that you are not able to stop along the way and enjoy the scenery as you are going. Remember that you will want to account for the possibility of having to stop if someone gets carsick or needing to stop for coffee and snacks and restroom breaks along the way. And if you have a pet traveling with you they will need bathroom breaks as well and will require some time after eating before they are put back in the car again.
Make room to put pillows and blankets that can be easily reached for use in the car so that passengers can access them without the driver having to pull over and dig things out.
Each person should have a small bag or backpack that holds the things they will want to have during the trip. Perhaps a bag of trail mix, a few snack items and something to drink along with books, games and a music player.
Spend some time with everyone that will be on the trip before you leave and decide what your route will be and what people want to get a chance to do along the way. Is there a really neat shopping center on the way to your destination that you want to spend some time looking for last minute holiday gifts at? Maybe there is a restaurant that you have always wanted to stop in and have dinner at? If you will be traveling through a town during the day you might consider stopping at the museum or some other point of interest for a little break from traveling.
Don't let the journey be all work, take some time to plan things out a little and have an enjoyable time during all parts of your trip.
