Redecorating rather than traveling this year

Instead of traveling, I have been planning to focus spare funds this year on projects around the house. I've started with my mom's bedroom, which I am in the process of repainting, and once that is finished I am moving to the bathroom. It needs everything. I had painted some murals in there, such as a fish above the vanity and started a mural around the tub area, but I have a lot to do still and want to replace the standard el-cheapo vanity with a fancier one.

The vanity is not the only thing that needs to be replaced, but it is the most pressing item. I figure a good portion of my travel this year will be going around looking at bathroom vanities that might work on there. I also need to build some storage shelves and get the wash room finished so I can move the washer and dryer out of the bathroom and install a walk-in shower this summer.

I'd rather be traveling, but I think in the long run improvements on the house will be a much better investment than airline tickets to Hawaii would be.

When you have to spend so much time somewhere, it makes sense to make the best of it.
