Pack it in, pack it out. That has been a saying in camping for as far back as I can remember. Even before I heard that from others it had been a natural part of camping for my family. What sense does it make to go out and enjoy the wilderness if you are going to be trashing the beauty that you are enjoying? I have gone to places where people leave a mess behind them, even way out in the back country where it should be kept natural there are obvious indications of man's disrespect for the land.
There are hotels now that are targeted toward being eco friendly. Resorts that go the extra mile in helping to assure that the beauty we enjoy today will be enjoyed by our children's children and their grandchildren. Traveling means discovering new places and finding out about the world, but it does not mean you have to leave your mark on that world. As you travel, think about what you can do to help others get the feeling that they are the first people to have come across the wonders you have discovered. It will make the experience better for everyone and be the ultimate mark that you can leave on your travels.
