On Monday, an immigrant family from the Philippines was running late to catch a connecting flight after having to unpack and repack all of their luggage at the Vancouver airport on a connection to Winnipeg. In a hurry to get through the airport they boarded their flight and were caught at the next leg of their journey by airport officials asking if they forgot something at their last stop. What did they forget? A 23-month-old baby boy.
Seems that the parents and grandparents were so harried making sure they did not miss their flight that they did what has become almost a cliche of hurried travel and forgot the kid. It is usually that the child is left at home, but this time the little boy was left at the Vancouver airport as the adults, who had apparently got separated, all ran for the gate to avoid missing their flight.
I can sympathize with them, I have tried to make it from one gate to the next in those airports and it is neigh impossible sometimes to make that connection. I guess they all just assumed that someone else had the baby and all ran for the next gate to get there in the ten minutes they had to make it in. I think next time I would be a little less worried about leaving behind one of the carry on luggage and more concerned that I had the baby with me if I was them.
