I was reading the travel news this morning and there is a lot of talk out there about the plan to auction off airport slots at the JFK and Newark airports. This planned slot auction is being met with a less than happy reception by the airlines, and there is even talk of a lawsuit and of action to prevent the auctioned slots being usable.
In an article at MSNBC.com, Port Authority aviation director Bill DeCota is said to have made the statement that any plane arriving via an auctioned slot would be barred from using gates or ground facilities at their airports.
"We're not going to allow it to come to a terminal," said DeCota.
It will be interesting to see what comes of this, even if I am a bit confused by it at the moment. I do know it has a lot of people spitting nails at the very idea of it and insisting that it will do nothing to improve the congestion and flight delays.
