Like so many small towns all across the States, the small Alaskan town of Talkeetna is waiting to see how this year’s tourist season shapes up.
Businesses like the flightseeing business, Talkeetna Air Taxi, are watching the tourism forecast with a wary eye and not hiring additional employees just yet. In fact, according to an article in the March 18th edition of the Anchorage Daily News, Talkeetna Air Taxi is even selling one of its seven airplanes.
Sandra Loomis, general manager of the flightseeing business, told the Daily News that the company was making plans to scale back, not because of this year, but because of their three to five year projections on the tourism industry.
Last year some of the businesses in Talkeetna had similar unease, only to see a surprising number of international tourists take up the slack.
