On February 26th Alaska Airlines announced that it is going to be offering passengers Wi-Fi access on flights. The Alaska Airlines Inflight Wi-Fi service will allow passengers to use any Wi-Fi enabled device such as a laptop, smartphone or portable media player.
The service is free during the 60 day trial period, the airline has not yet determined what the pricing will be after the trial period is over. For now passengers on Wi-Fi enabled flights will be able to access online services over both land and water, but they will not be able to use their cell phone - since studies have shown that passengers overwhelmingly oppose the use of cell phones in-flight.
