It's hard to believe that I opened the Friday morning paper and see that the Iditarod is already half over. The Anchorage Daily News announced in their sports section that Lance Mackey arrived at the town if Iditarod at 5:20 p.m. on Thursday to claim the $3,000 halfway purse and set his position at the lead of the mushers racing their way to Nome.
I'm not paying as close attention to the race this year as I had in years past, since watching the Iditarod was always something I did with mom, but it is hard to live in Alaska and not know what is going on with the Last Great Race.
