Want to experience a once in a lifetime museum experience? The South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology in Bolzano, Italy has brought together more than 60 mummies in a Special Exhibition: Mummies. The dream of everlasting life. The special exhibit runs from March 10th to October 25th 2009.
Known as the home of Otzi, the Iceman, the South Tyrol Museum of Archaeology has brought together mummies from 27 different collections and museums all around Europe. The exhibit features more than your typical human mummies, bringing together tools used in the mummification process, animal mummies, and mummies that underwent natural mummification in peat bogs, deserts, or ice.
Visitors can view bog bodies from northern Europe, an Egyptian mummy in full burial dress and sarcophagus, and, of course, the Iceman.
Visitors will be able to discover the latest scientific findings in the fields of anthropology, genetics, biochemistry, pathology and medicine. Multimedia presentations will cover living conditions, nutrition and illnesses. Learn more about the mummification process, from the dinosaurs to today, through guided tours, scientific workshops and educational sessions.
