Bike riding in Alaska

I was able to get out on the ATV and ride some yesterday, and I am looking forward to getting the chance to get out there and ride again today, weather permitting. I have decided one thing is for sure, though, I need to get out on my bicycle as soon as the weather warms up enough that the snow has melted off the bike trails. The snow was still roughly six inches deep on the trails yesterday.

That is one of the lovely things about this part of Alaska, we're getting more and more places to get out and ride bikes .... okay, we interrupt this post to announce that the earth just shook LOL. It's 12:14 PM and just had a rather decent jolt of a quake. Was one to alert that the ground was moving, then a second much stronger jolt. Doubt either was more than a 4, but I'll check on the quake website after while and see. For now, back to what I was saying.... Anyway, we have been getting some really good places to ride bicycles in the valley so I can't wait for the bicycle trails to thaw out so I can get back out there and ride some.

As much as I love my ATV, I really can't lose a lot of weight on the ATV unless I take something like Apidexin or some other kind of diet pills. For actual get up and move weight loss, getting out and riding my bicycle or going on walks with the dogs is my best bet and I know it. I just have to figure out arranging for someone to hang out with dad, since he needs full-time standby assistance, and the weather to warm up enough that I can get out there and move.

I wish that I was not so far out from Anchorage, since I would like to get to ride some of the trails in there on my bicycle, but at 70 miles it would take all day to ride into Anchorage. Maybe some time this summer I could consider an all-day ride into Anchorage and stay at a motel room, then ride back out to the valley, but I doubt I will get around to any kind of adventure like that for at least a few years. Certainly not until I've been able to ride enough that I won't have cramps in my legs from the extended ride.
