I was just watching the news about today being the first day in which same sex marriage is legal in Iowa.
Those who have read this blog for some time, and those who truly know me, know that I am an advocate for same sex marriage, so I am thrilled to see that another state has made it possible for same sex couples to marry.
While paperwork is being processed today, there is still a three day waiting list for ceremonies unless a judge determines to waive the waiting period. I'm sure that for many in Iowa that waiting period is going to be an excruciating experience, but I am sure all will agree it is well worth their time to wait for three days.
The main reason I am an advocate for same sex marriage is because I have always felt that it was the right of any man or woman to love who they feel that bond for, backing up that belief is the simple fact that the laws have made it impossible for same sex couples to have the same rights as opposite sex couples without being able to marry in the same manner. From difficulties with the issue of paternity to the coverage of ones significant other by a worker's health insurance there are many many things I have seen that prejudice against a same sex couple.
Congratulations to all you soon to be newlyweds in Iowa.
