I went into town yesterday to pick up some groceries, a necessary evil this time of the month, and while I was in town I stopped by Lowes to see what a new water heater system would cost. I ended up back in the yard and garden area and found their rough 1/2 inch cedar fencing. A bit under $2 for a six foot tall cedar board. That certainly works for me, so I spent the $20 I had to spend on *me* this month on ten 6' x 5 1/2" x 1/2" cedar boards. Getting them home I stashed them in a place out of the weather where I will, next month, stash another ten boards. I might have to wait until next year sometime, but eventually I am going to have enough boards collected to build the board fence that my dad wants around the front yard area.
I figure it will take about 160 boards to run the fence 20' out from the house and 40' across, then back to the house. Total eventual cost before I buy the 2x4 cross bars will be about $300 for the complete fence. Which, I had figured it would cost about $500 to install a chain link fence, so a total cost of about $400 to install a nice 6' tall board fence works for me.
