Are mic issues contagious?

I think computer issues are contagious. Back in October I was having a bunch of issues with my mic on the computer, then last week my friend was having issues getting her computer mic to work, and now this weekend I have had a hard time making my computer's mic work. I got the mic working now, though, so if I could just get the voice to work as well, then I might consider a podcast.
