Button Jar Agrivation

Argh. I am trying to create a button jar with a pincushion lid, but the first effort to make one resulted in the discovery that the lid no longer fits the Mason jar if there is very much fabric between the lid and tightening band. Need to go back to the drawing board and figure out how to affix the pincushion to the top in a way that it is not a struggle to reclose the Mason jar.
