When my dad was in the ICU at the start of the month me and my mom were talking about the lousy layout of the ICU waiting room and had got to talking about how for the price of the four paintings they had on the walls they could have got a better television than the 13 inch one mounted up on the wall. We discussed how nice it would be if instead of 4 paintings and a 13 inch TV they had put in one of those plasma flat panel televisions mounted on one of the walls and used a slide show screen saver type deal to show paintings on the TV... well, apparently the guys at Ambient Art DVD were listening because I just found where they have a
Ambient Art plasma tv screensaver featuring 346 paintings from 11 famous artists including Edgar Degas, Claude Monet, and Vincent Van Gogh. The DVD can either be set to show a different painting every 30 seconds to 5 minutes depending on the delay you set, or it can be set for you to listen to commentary about each artist as you view the paintings, or view them set to classical music (I think this feature would be great for fancy parties - paintings and mood music all in one). You can also set the display to show just one painting continuously so that you can enjoy your favorite masterpiece in comfort. In the slideshow mode you can even toggle details about the paintings on or off with your remote so you can see just what painting you are viewing, the painter, and even the medium the painting was painted in. This would also be perfect for art classes - each painting precisely color-matched to the original for optimal appreciation of the artwork and each one preserved to proper dimensions for the screen size (widescreen or fullscreen). As an amateur painter, I highly recommend looking into this, if you love art it is a great value for the price (under $20).
My two favorites aside from the paintings would have to be the
Ambient Water DVD ( an aquarium with no water to maintain and no need to remember to feed the fishies!) and the
Ambient Space DVD with NASA images - Love NASA! Perfect Christmas gift for my dad or brother!
