Anthony White Artwork

Meanderings around the Internet during the pre-dawn hours can turn up some fascinating things. For example, do you know how much this painting by Anthony White is selling for?

If you guessed $99 then you're right on the money. Or at least the fellow that bought the painting was. $100, $101 and $102 have already been reserved by waiting buyers too.

This is the Money Series by Anthony White, a unique collection of paintings that I think (and this is just my humble opinion and may not match the artist's vision), but I think it represents the growth of value in artwork and represents just how the artist evolves from scraping for a few dollars for his art to slowly building up a reputation to be able to sell it for what it is worth, then on to a point where the public determines what the value of his or her work is. To the right is the first of the US series. I like the color choices on that one. Makes me think of the meanings of black and white, the presence or lack of something, in this case money. I'm not sure if Anthony White was thinking about that when he made the painting, but I think it's a very cool subliminal message - don't you?

I like it! It's a very cool series of paintings and is done in not just US currency, but also in Australian dollars, British Pounds, and Euros. The artist, Anthony White, lives in Yeppoon Australia and has been painting the money series since April 2004. He is now placing half of the proceeds (any odd dollar amount) into a fund to buy an acre of land on which to display his larger art pieces to the public. (Even dollar amounts go toward things like food.)

The current series as of this posting:

And just as a side bar... make sure that you check out what these things are reselling for.
