Soothing fireplace on your TV

It seems that the people that make the Ambient DVDs for use on your TV as a screen saver or to add some ambiance to a room during a social occasion have finally caught on to one of the best uses I know of for the things: a relaxation and reminiscence tool for senior citizens.

I bought my dad an electric fireplace and he enjoys it as much as he would a real one, asking me every morning to stoke the fire as a way to ask me to turn it on, then reminding me it needs turned off at night by asking if I banked the fire. Since we spent so many years heating our houses with wood heat, it is nice to have the effect of a fire, without the mess and trouble and work.

The DVDs such as the Ambient Fire Yule Log DVD: with it's cheery fireplace feel, and the Ambient Series TV Screensavers: in general are all great ways to add a little interest to a room when the television is not in use.
