It was really cute down at the physical therapy center the other day, they have a little Shih Tzu like mom's. The name of the Shih Tzu at the physical therapy place is Duke, which just breaks my heart because it of course makes me think of my little lergnom Duke who died years ago. My little Duke was a dachshund - toy poodle mix and lived for about 18 years before he died from what I think may have been cancer on his chest.
Having had both little dogs and large dogs I can say that little dogs are the most loyal dogs, they are fiercely protective of their owners in a way that far eclipses their small size and have a loyal duty about them to make sure they protect and watch over their masters that I can think of no large sized dog possessing.
From my own experiences with my little Duke and the equally loyal Velvet who lived 16 long and happy years, to Imperial Jade Genghis Khan (aka: Wookie) who protects my mom when she sleeps and watches the door sadly when she leaves I can tell you that there is nothing as loyal as a small dog.
Need more proof? There can be no proof as strong as Greyfriars Bobby.
