Gas prices going up - oil is at $93, could gas be $3.00 a gallon soon?

I was listening to the news this morning and they were saying that oil topped $93 today. Their prediction was that there was a good chance that gas prices would go to $3.00 a gallon by the end of the year. That's just what people want to hear just before Christmas. It's going to really screw with holiday shopping - unless this is a ploy. Can just see scare tactics and high gas prices being used to push people to make massive purchases for the day after Thanksgiving sales. Then prices drop once again just in time for more shopping at Christmas - how convenient. Anyone want to take bets that happens? Nah, I'm just being a paranoid little conspiracy theorist - they wouldn't be that tricky about things. Would they?
