Went into town earlier and was so annoyed that I did not have my camera along with me because there were a pair of gorgeous Sun dogs flanking the sun. I know, I know, a lot of you (if not most) are asking "what?" - a Sun dog is a parhelion ("with the sun") that most often, in my experience, looks like a fragment of a rainbow. They might be to one side of the sun, or the best effect is usually out to either side of the sun, and sometimes you can find where the effect causes a complete circular rainbow around the sun.
I love Sun dogs, they are some of the most kewlest of atmospheric phenomena that there is this side of tinkling aurora veils (yes, the Aurora Borealis (aka: northern lights) can make sounds - I heard it before up here in Alaska, it's like billions of miniature crystal bells tinkling).
