Weight Loss Options: LAP-BAND®

I have struggled with my weight for years. It started going up just after I became a full-time caregiver and stopped getting out to hike or ride my bike as much as I used to be able to do. That resulted in a very rapid gain in weight since I still ate the same way (snack cakes, slices of cake, spoonfuls of chocolate frosting, candy bars, burgers, hot dogs potato chips... I had a lousy diet). And I maintained that lousy diet when I quit getting as much exercise and my weight quickly went from 135 pounds up to 220 pounds. :::cringes::: Yeah, that bad.

Through adjusting what I have been eating and adding back in exercise when I can get the time to exercise without falling asleep, I have dropped into the level of about 185 pounds now and am still losing the weight slowly. This means that I am one of the lucky ones that will not have to consider surgical weight loss options such as lapband surgery, which is just fine by me.

I have looked into the LAP-BAND® System for laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding as part of my work as a freelance writer, however, and what I learned was a bit of a surprise. I had always thought of the LAP-BAND® system as being something that was highly risky or a fad, not something that anyone should actually consider, however that I have changed my view on the system in the course of my research into just what the LAP-BAND® System is and what research has been done on the system.

The LAP-BAND® procedure is intended for severely obese patients, and there are multiple reasons why a patient who might otherwise be suites for the procedure might not be a candidate for the LAP-BAND® procedure, so if you are considering the use of laparoscopic adjustable gastric banding to assist you in significant weight loss you should research the procedure through sites such as the Journey Lite website (www.journeylite.com) and consult your doctor to find out if the LAP-BAND® procedure is right for you.
