Lithium Battery Limits in Carry-on Baggage

Okay, I have looked a little more into what all the insanity is about the FAAs new regulation and it is nothing for anyone to be panicking over. They are simply stating that you should carry your spare lithium batteries in your carry-on bags and not put them in the checked bags.

Apparently this is already a rule on international flights and will become a rule for domestic flights within the United States as of January 1, 2008. At that time, air passengers may not travel with spare lithium batteries of any kind in their checked baggage. All spare lithium batteries must be carried in carry-on baggage, with the terminals covered/insulated.

The proper way to carry the battery is of course in original packaging, but in cases where that is not possible the batteries can have their terminals taped (I suggest electrical tape) so they can not short against other batteries or metal objects. The FAA also recommends placing each battery in a separate plastic bag.
