Spring is closing in on Alaska, which means that snow machines are giving way to off road vehicles and snow plows are stepping aside to make room for the returning snowbirds. I can't wait to get out there and get my ATV ready for some summer trail riding, I just wish there were more official ATV trails out there to play on.
For the outdoor enthusiast, Alaska is a great place to explore, but if you're planning to haul your jeep up behind your motor home this summer then you really need to make sure that your jeep has some sort of tail light guards on it to avoid the aggravation of breaking a taillight when backing out of an overgrown dead end trail.
That is something that I have encountered before with my sister, but thankfully the branch she backed against did not actually break the taillight. I thought I had broken the taillight on my ATV one day when I got on the wrong trail and had to back up and turn around, went right back into a branch without realizing it. Pause for a few moments of sped up heart rate, check the taillight and then take a few minutes to quadruple check that I am right and it did not break. I was much more careful as I completed that turn-around and got going back the way I had wanted to be going.
Oh, and one last note for summer fun seekers - check the trail information for where you want to go riding to make sure that off road vehicles are allowed there, please. There are a lot of trails in Alaska that are closed to motorized vehicles.
