Touring by dog sled is something that many tourists want to get the chance to do when they come to Alaska. Perhaps they are taking a leisurely trot through the woods on a dog sled, following trails the dogs use when they train for the Last Great Race. Maybe they are exploring a glacier, watching the blue ice of the packed snow, so like the blue eyes of the energetic lead dog. Maybe they have gone to a remote village and are experiencing the wonder of dog sledding with men that still use it for day to day travel. Or could they be experiencing the ultimate thrill in dog sled rides? Riding along on the Iditarod start.
Whatever it is that draws tourists to seek the thrill of a sled ride, I would encourage them to do some looking around and decide what their trip allows for, then take the time to do some research and find a dog musher that will match their desired experience. And while researching, take some time to learn the sport, find out what it is that draws men and women to love dog mushing.
Some places that I suggest for starting your research on dog mushing:
The official Iditarod website
Lance Mackey's Comeback Kennel Lance Mackey's website
DeeDee Janrowe's website
Huskey Homestead Jeff King's website
