Iditarod: dogs and technology ... do they mix?

I was checking the stats on the Iditarod mushers last night, looks like several of the mushers took their mandatory 24 hour layover. Right now DeeDee Janrowe has moved up ahead to the leaders and is sitting in Cripple from the looks of it, she's one of eleven mushers, including Jeff King and Ed Iten that are showing as being into Cripple.

One SNAFU that I noticed, Martin Buser shows up as having checked into Cripple at 6:40 today. His tracker GPS deal is broadcasting out of McGrath, which is where he spent the night last night. I need to poke around the Iditarod site's blogs from the trail and find out what's up with that.

I was told by my mom that Lance Mackey had been lost on the GPS for a while - he had apparenly been giving one of the dogs a ride in his sled, and the dog was laying on the GPS deal, blocking the signal. Hmm... apparently it is not just TV remotes that can't transmit through a dog. lol
