Okay, I figured out why Scdoris scratched out of the Iditarod, I had missed an update on the Iditarod Blogs that explained that she scratched out because of concern for her dogs's health.
Apparently her and Runyan started out of Koyuk, but Scdoris only went a short distance before discussing things with Runyan and leaving him to finish the race alone as she went back to Koyuk and scratched out over her concern for her dogs being in good enough health to continue the race.
It has to be heart sickening to make it that far and scratch, but I applaud her for placing the health of her dogs foremost.
