I heard on the radio a little while ago the tale of the ultimate in speed road tripping - 48 States in 5 days. Yeah, I too thought "that's impossible!" a second before thinking "that's insane!".
What is going on? Josh, Joey and Adam - three bloggers from Utah - decided that they were going to set a World Record for "best known time" for a road trip of the 48 contiguous States. Their trip blog can be found at The Great American Road Trip, which concluded on Thursday, May 8, 2008 with a very appropriate visit to the four corners marker of Nevada, Utah, Colorado and New Mexico. That is a great way to end out such a trip.
I plan to make my own road trip around the USA one of these days, but I am not going to try for any sort of insanity like those three went through. Their final tally on the trip is computed on their blog as 7,008 miles driven in 106 hours and 43 minutes.
I'll leave that record to them, and make my own trip one day at a leisurely pace that includes a lot of rest stops and showers.
Great going guys, I'm sure it was one of those once in a lifetime adventures you will all talk about for years to come.
