Road trip golf vacation

Rather than flying to some far off golf destination, you might prefer to look into more localized golf courses that you have not explored before. Check out the resorts online, just as if you were going to fly there on vacation from across the country, but forgo the flight reservations and drive to your chosen destination instead.

This allows you to take advantage of all of the benefits that any other traveler enjoys, but requires only a simple road trip instead of a massively complicated juggling act of airport chaos.

A few tips:

Pack your car with your travel plans in mind. If you will not be golfing until you reach your destination, then pack your golf bag first and your overnight bag last. This way you can access your overnight bag when you stop at a hotel without having to unload the golf bag that is not needed until you reach your destination.

Look over your car insurance policy to see if it will cover the loss of your golf bag if it is stolen from your car during the trip.

To cut back on costs, you can pack a small ice chest and box with snack foods and drinks that can take the place of stopping at more expensive convenience stores and fast food places.

Keep a record of gas, oil and other car expenses as well as a list of what is spent for personal things such as souvenirs and food. With the availability of prepaid credit cards, and credit card gift cards, you can create a group pool for expenses. For example: If you are traveling with a group you could all put a certain amount into a prepaid credit card that can be used for gas or other vehicle expenses during the trip with any remainder being divided between the group members at the end of the vacation.
