Passengers on the Pacific Sun, a New Zealand cruise ship, found themselves being tossed about Wednesday evening when their cruise ship was knocked around when 60 mile an hour winds creates swells estimated at 23 feet in height.
A spokesman for the cruise line told New Zealand's National Radio - "Loose items did move around the ship when she did take the sharp turn, but the ship was in no danger."
The vessel belongs to P&O Cruises, a brand of Carnival Corp., and was carrying 1,732 passengers and 671 crew. More than 40 passengers were reported injured, with P&O Cruises corporate affairs director Sandy Olsen stating that three passengers had suffered broken bones.
The Pacific Sun docked on Friday and was said to have sustained some "internal damage." The ship was reported to have not been in danger, and is scheduled, if it checks out as being in good shape by technicians, to sail today (Saturday) on schedule.
