Forget flying, can I drive instead?

Okay, so, the airlines are charging $50 and up for a second suitcase, there's the fuel surcharge, and now $2 if you want to have a drink of water? Anyone else seeing the truth in that commercial on TV with the stewardess announcing the costs of everything "And if you need anything don't hesitate to his the call button... for a minimum fee of one dollar." It's getting there! It really sure as heck is getting there.

I have already decided that I am going to be looking closer at the option of car travel instead. I mean, shoot, you're going to be paying close to $1,000 for the ticket (outta Alaska), and then all them charges and not to mention if you picked up traveler's insurance and that stuff... I can shop around for a fuel efficient car, get myself an ice chest for sodas, switch out the traveler's insurance for some good roadside insurance and life insurance quotes, and stay in hotels along the way and probably still come in on a trip for about the same price as I can on an airline - even with the raising cost of gas.

And I have been up and down the Al-Can Highway a lot of times, trust me, it's a much pleasanter drive than sitting in cramped airline seats - and I'm short (well, 5'2, but you should have seen the poor 6'+ man trying to fit in the seat beside me the last time I flew out to go to that business convention in Las Vegas last year. ::shaking head::: It's insane.

And heck, I'm scared of flying, so that don't help any either.
