Journey to the Center of the Earth

I watched Journey to the Center of the Earth last night. Kewl movie for the sort of movie that it is, definitely recommended if you have not yet seen it. There were a few points I did not care for, but they were personal preference things I would have changed if I had been the writer. I can't really say what without giving away plot details, so if you have not seen the movie, stop reading here.

Still with me? You've seen the movie, right? Okay, I'll spoil you then. I was not exactly impressed by the introduction the gal had into the thing, but given the pace and flow of the movie overall and the lines later on that stemmed from that "No one gets dibbs on the guide!" etc, it was a forgivable flaw. The one I don't forgive was the killing off of the missing brother. I can understand why they had to with their heat issue thread to the plot, but I was really really hoping that they would have had it be that the dead guy was that first explorer fellow or a buddy of his, and that the kid's dad had already crossed the sea and would show up when they was over there. Had been thinking it'd be kewl if he distracted the t-rex when it had folks cornered or something. It could have easily been explained if the first seismic activity had blocked off the activity of the lava around the pocket area, then the second one that made them go there had been the lava breaking through to get back into that area.

As I said, though, for it's flaws, really good movie that is worth watching if you like the kind of movie.
