I have been watching my dad's old television, which is one of the earlier big screens. This television has a very nice screen size on it, being a full 53" corner to corner. While the picture quality is not nearly as good as the new TVs screens have on them, the larger size is a good trade-off for me. This is a great television for exercise programs or just enjoying a good movie with a nice home theater feel to the film.
Don't get me wrong, I love the look of the LCD TVs I have seen, but the screens are small compared to this one. I know that technology is always evolving, though, and the technology behind the lcd tv is still in early development, so I expect to see the screen sizes increase in years to come, particularly since two major benefits of lcd technology are lighter weight televisions and reduced power requirements. I want to see the televisions take the step to full wall sized screens available to the general public at a reasonable cost. When this happens you can be sure that it will be DTV ready, and with a digital tv the size of a wall, you could easily build a computer game system that would project a different side of a game onto each of four sides of a room, even the floor and ceiling, so that gamers are fully surrounded by their favorite game. Or imagine traveling and having a treadmill in a room that creates a true visual environment around you for your run. Maybe be able to take a trip through the cosmos or take your date out for an exotic dinner in a tropical resort that your cable provider feeds into your entertainment room?
