Took my dad down to see my sister at her place earlier this evening, and as I was getting ready to leave I was dashing about getting this and that all finished off so that we could get going. Had been cleaning around the fireplace and getting all the dust and ash and whatever outta the cast iron cooking stuff displayed around the fireplace. As part of the rearrangement and cleaning I moved my mom's old brass horse out from where I had it stored by the fireplace and it was sitting next to it at the end of the hallway.
I was darting through the house and you can see it coming - huh? Yup, I slammed into the horse, which is shin height, and tripped over it. It was a rather stupid maneuver made even better by the fact that I had seen the horse just before I tripped - as in I saw it as I approached it. So... why did I trip over it? Because I thought it was Cheyenne. The horse and Shy Girl are roughly the same size, and not far off in build - at least not in the shadowed area at end of the hall when I didn't have the light on and was not quite looking at where I was headed. So, thinking I was walking up on Shy... I assumed that she would move out of the way as I got to her. Only to discover that it was not her, it was a brass horse that most certainly was NOT going to move as I got to it.
Even stupider? At last moment when I figured out "that's not Shy!" I tried to correct by stepping over it. Top of right foot impacted with the bent foreleg on the horse, which caused me to trip, causing the left shin to meet the mane as I went over the horse. Ouch!!
I was limping for a while and the right foot got a nasty knot swollen up on it. Then, went to my sister's place and leg and foot had started feeling reasonably well. Until I left. After getting dad in the Caddie I was taking the wheelchair to the trunk and caught my shin on something on it - right where I had earlier caught the horse's mane. I had to lean on the chair for a moment to wait out the pain coursing though my shin. Got chair in car, went shopping and home. Now every once in a while if I stand too long or step wrong the swollen knot on the left leg (which is the size of my palm) starts feeling like someone busted me in the shin with a baseball bat and I have to sit and get the leg up for a bit and find how it's not hurting so bad and wait out the pain.
I am not at all looking forward to what tomorrow is going to bring.
