Winter draws closer

The leaves are yellow, Termination Dust is on the mountains and two inches of snow in Denali National Park on Thursday closed the road to mile 3. The road opened back up to mile 12 after only a few hours, but it is a reminder that winter is closing in and it is time to start thinking about winter tires and maybe even snow-birding it for the winter.

Now is the time to think about making sure that the old motor-home or 5th wheel is in shape for a long haul and getting some 5th wheel insurance to cover that long journey down the AlCan highway on a winter excursion to the warmer parts of the lower 48 States.

When the temperatures drop in Alaska, the warmth of California and Arizona starts looking really nice to Alaskans that are not into winter sports such as dog mushing or skiing. I'd love to go snow-bird down the highway, if I could afford such luxuries, but for now, I'll hunker down with a mug of cocoa and a nice warm fire and watch for the Northern Lights to put on their shows.
