:CueCat - my God, I had forgot about them things

I found a long forgotten little toy tonight. Do you remember the :CueCat? They were little cat shaped optical readers that were given away at places like Radio Shack. You used them to scan the barcode on just about anything and were taken to a website for that product.

There were alternative programs for them popping up all over the place very quickly, and even websites that would show you how to neuter your :Cat so it did not send information about you back to its little spies.

I found the :Cat and its CD and instruction booklet all in a box. I wonder if there is any use for the things now? I looked around for information, but although I found ways to neuter the :Cat, and found that Digital Convergence (the makers of :CueCat) is not there any longer, I did not find any programs or anything that could be used to make the cat do anything worthwhile.

Anyone have any suggestions? Or is this just another bit of technology for the dead tech bin?
