Trains vs Planes

I noticed today a feed from Tripso that says that the national airline of Spain is starting to lose customers to a new high-speed rail network. While travel by rail has been a popular way to get from destination to destination where there is no airport, Spain has found out now that travel by rail can be an alternative even where airlines travel. In my opinion this is a good thing, as it provides not just competition within the airline industry, but for alternative travel methods as well. I know that given a choice, I would rather travel by train than by airline.
