Sight Reading Music

As I am planning how to redecorate the kitchen I am stumped by the presence of a large piano that takes up a significant section of the area I want to use for putting in a table to work on. It's not that I don't love the piano, I have three of the things in here, but it needs to move so I can push the baking cabinet back a bit and make the kitchen a bit more open. I don't want to shove the piano into a corner though, because I really do want to learn to play the thing.

I started learning years ago, when my older brother taught me part of Red River Valley. He did not teach me how to read sheet music though, so trying any kind of playing from sheet music is torture for me. I can play a few songs, and I know where the keys are, which is what he taught me was what keys are what notes, but sight reading music? Nope, I never managed to figure that one out.

While it is far too expensive for me to even consider, at least before I can get the heater system repaired, the program for sight reading music offered by 'Harmony and Melody Studio, Inc' seems to be a decent program for learning to read sheet music from what I can tell on the linked to page.

They offer a satisfaction guarantee with a promise to refund payment (less shipping and handling) should you decide within 30 days that their sight reading music program is not working for you. Operating since 2000, the business has been BBB accredited since the end of October 2008, in that time the BBB has had no complaint filings, so I see no reason not to trust that the company would provide those wanting to learn to play the piano by sight reading of sheet music anything less than their money's worth.

I don't think you should buy some computer program to teach you. If you already know the note names and how they sound, all you have to do is get someone who knows (sort of) what they're doing to show you what the notes look like.

The key locations are just like the note locations. You'll probably have an easier time at it than I did.
